Spirit Storycatching Network offers a range of culturally grounded supports designed to strengthen leadership, wellness, and mentorship pathways within Indigenous communities. The following program components may be delivered in school, land-based, or community settings and are shaped through invited partnership with local leadership, Elders, and cultural helpers. Together, these approaches support youth, families, and emerging helpers in developing confidence, resilience, and shared responsibility through culturally guided learning and relationship-based practice.

Helper & Peer Mentor Training

Spirit Storycatching Network supports the development of local helper and peer mentor pathways through culturally grounded mentorship and collaborative learning opportunities within school, land-based, and community settings.
Participants may initially take part in relational circles, land-based gatherings, or youth leadership activities as learners. Over time, and with the support of Elders, local cultural helpers, and Indigenous Mental Health Therapists, youth and community members may be invited to assist with group responsibilities, peer support, or cultural activities that contribute to the wellbeing of others.
As relationships deepen, emerging helpers may take on supportive roles within circles, camps, or wellness initiatives. These opportunities may include assisting with group facilitation, contributing to cultural gatherings, or supporting younger participants through mentorship and shared responsibility.
Through mentorship, shadowing, co-facilitation, and reflective practice, individuals may gradually move from participant roles into peer mentor or junior facilitator pathways within their own schools or communities. Micro-trainings in areas such as circle facilitation, grief response, emotional regulation, conflict repair, safety planning, and documentation practices may be offered to support confidence and continuity.
This approach reflects a mentorship ladder of development — from participant to helper, peer mentor, and junior facilitator — and supports local capacity-building by creating opportunities for youth and community members to contribute to future programming over time.
Rather than preparing individuals for roles outside their community, Helper and Peer Mentor Training supports pathways for leadership that remain connected to local cultural knowledge, mentorship relationships, and shared responsibility.

Land-Based Program Component

Spirit Storycatching Network supports land-based programming through seasonal gatherings that create opportunities for youth, helpers, and community members to participate in culturally grounded activities guided by local leadership, Elders, and cultural protocols. Activities may include medicine walks, food gathering and preparation, hide work, fishing, fire teachings, drumming, or relational circles held on the land. These experiences support learning through participation, mentorship, and shared responsibility while strengthening cultural identity, intergenerational relationships, and leadership pathways over time. Land-based gatherings are planned in collaboration with community leadership and may include safety planning, accessibility supports, and culturally appropriate group arrangements to ensure inclusive participation. Opportunities for youth to assist with camp preparations or group activities can also support mentorship pathways and peer leadership development. Through continuity between school-based supports and seasonal land-based gatherings, the Land-Based Program Component fosters environments where healing, learning, and leadership are supported through connection to the land and community.

Trauma, Grief, and Addiction Support

Spirit Storycatching Network supports communities in responding to experiences of trauma, grief, and addiction through culturally grounded and relationship-based approaches to wellness.

Our blended team of Indigenous Mental Health Therapists and Cultural Healers may offer support within school, land-based, or community settings, creating space for youth, families, and helpers to participate in relational circles, mentorship pathways, and culturally guided activities that reflect local knowledge and priorities.

Support may include opportunities for reflection, peer connection, emotional regulation, conflict repair, and grief-informed practices, with follow-up options and referrals to local services where appropriate. These approaches are guided by community leadership and carried out in collaboration with existing health and wellness supports.

By working alongside local cultural helpers, educators, and service providers, this component supports continuity of care and contributes to environments where healing is guided through relationship, participation, and shared responsibility.

Youth Leadership & Resilience Program

The Youth Leadership & Resilience Program supports young people in developing confidence, cultural identity, and leadership skills through participation in relational circles, mentorship opportunities, and land-based activities.

Through school-linked supports, community gatherings, and seasonal land-based programming, youth are invited to take part in culturally grounded experiences that strengthen emotional well-being, peer connection, and shared responsibility. These opportunities may include leadership circles, collaborative group activities, and mentorship relationships guided by Elders, local cultural helpers, and Indigenous Mental Health Therapists.

As relationships deepen, youth may be supported in taking on peer mentorship roles, assisting with group responsibilities, or contributing to community wellness initiatives. This approach encourages leadership to grow through participation and lived experience while remaining connected to culture, land, and community priorities.

By creating safe, affirming environments that support identity, belonging, and mentorship, the program contributes to the development of youth leadership pathways within both school and community settings.
